AVIVA ROLLS OUT A NEW ALEXA SKILL: One of the UK’s biggest insurance and workplace pension providers, Aviva, has built a new skill on Amazon’s Alexa to help users get insights into their pensions by enabling them to ask Alexa how much they’ve saved toward their retirement. Consumers have to register on MyAviva to use the skill, and can then link that account to their Alexa account. Thirty-four percent of people check their pension balance once a year, while 21% say they do so less often, according to a survey from Aviva of over 2,000 employed adults. This shows that consumers aren’t engaging with their pensions; however, 33% of consumers said that easier ways to check balances would make them more likely to engage with their pensions. Additionally, 6% of respondents check their pensions on a daily basis, so they’ll likely welcome the new feature since it will streamline the process. As such, there will likely be a lot of demand for the new Alexa skill, and uptake is expected to be high given that 11% of households in the US — a similar market to the UK — own an Alexa device.
