EDGE COMPUTING STARTUP SWIM.AI RAISES $11 MILLION: California-based edge computing startup Swim.ai has raised $11 million in a Series B investment round, according to TechCrunch. The company’s primary product is a local computing software system, dubbed Swim EDX, that combines local data processing and analytics with machine learning capabilities. Using the data that IoT devices are constantly creating and feeding back to the monitoring system for processing, the system trains a machine learning model that a company can use to make real-time decisions. The software can add machine learning capabilities to local systems using existing hardware, enabling companies to analyze data and obtain operational insights that can be communicated immediately to personnel and devices. The startup is focusing its sales efforts on firms in the manufacturing and smart cities spaces, two markets where devices generate massive amounts of data and where real-time decision-making capabilities can create substantial savings.
